LSU, South Carolina and Auburn's Megan Schofill made the most of stingy conditions at Long Cove Golf Club on Monday to grab first-round leads in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.

After rounds of 1-under 283, LSU and South Carolina were the only two teams in red numbers following the conclusion of first-round play, while Schofill crafted a 5-under round 67 to take the individual lead in a field that includes eight of the top-20 female amateurs in the world are in the field.

Hot on Schofill's heels is LSU senior Ingrid Lindblad, who is just one back of the leader after posting a 3-under par 68 in the opening round.

LSU freshman Edit Hertzman found herself at 3-over over her first five holes but fought back with five birdies en route to 2-under par 69, which gives her a share of third place with Mathilde Claisse of South Carolina and Rosie Belsham of Baylor.

Junior Carla Tejedo's 1-over 72 and senior Latanna Stone's 3-over 74 rounded out LSU's scoring.

In addition to Claisse's 2-under 69, the host Gamecocks also benefitted from a 1-under 70 from freshman Mia Sandtorv Lussand while All-Americans Louise Rydqvist (71) and Hannah Darling (73) accounted for the final counting scores.

Schofill, ranked 17th in the world by Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com, made five birdies over her first nine holes to go out in 30, picked up another birdie on her 15th hole to move to 6-under and withstood bogeys on two of her final three holes for a round of 67.

"In my front nine, I made a lot of putts and hit the ball really well to get off to a hot start," Schofill said. "I struggled a little bit the last few holes and just managed to make pars. I felt like I hit it in the right places today on this golf course."

Starting her round on Long Cove's back nine, Belsham turned in a bogey-free 69, picking up birdies on holes Nos. 14 and 15. The Baylor junior finished with 12 straight pars to gain a share of third place.

Only eight golfers managed to break par on the first day on the 6,220-yard Long Cove layout.

Second-ranked Wake Forest is eight back and tied for third after the Demon Deacons carded a 7-over 291. No. 3 Oregon finds itself tied for seventh with Texas at 11-over 295.

The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate continues on Tuesday and Wednesday from Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C. GOLF Channel will provide live coverage each day beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET.

The Malaysian actress has been kicking ass on and off screen for decades, and is now sweeping the awards season for her starring role in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

After picking up a Screen Actors Guild award on Sunday (and dropping a well-timed F-bomb in her acceptance speech), the Oscars are one of her last stops on this impressive run.

This video contains profanity.

Who is she? You may know her most recently as Evelyn Wang from EEAO, the overwhelmed mother and laundromat owner who is grappling with her complicated relationship with her daughter.

What's the big deal?

What are people saying?

In accepting her SAG award, Yeoh said this moment wasn't just about her:

F***! Thank you! This is not just for me, this is for every little girl that looks like me ... Thank you for giving me a seat at the table, because so many of us need this. We want to be seen. We want to be heard. And tonight, you have shown us it is possible.

Yeoh told NPR's Ailsa Chang last year that she was going to fight for change:

We just have to rock the boat and say, 'Look at us. Give us a chance.' Because guess what? We exist in your society. We are part of the society and very, very much an intricate part of this whole community. This is the only way we will get more opportunities — if we fight for it and no longer be able to say, 'OK, I'll turn the other cheek.' Dang — no more turning the other cheek.

And here's the speech from her EEAO costar James Hong at the SAG awards on Sunday that succinctly addresses the situation:

Author and cultural critic Jeff Yang told NPR that Yeoh's achievements are finally getting the recognition they deserve.

Those of us who've known her and watched her from the very beginning of her career realize that this is not new for her, either, the sort of belated acknowledgement of her achievements, her talent, her skills. In a world where men, and white men in particular, are just naturally seen as kind of the center of the universe, there's something really lovely about the fact she's getting her due now ... But also something a little bit — again, why did it take so long?

So, what now?

‘We regret the delay, but progress is being made’: The latest update on the Longs post office

LONGS, S.C. (WMBF) - In just a few months, it will be two years since the Longs Post Office burned down. The fire happened in June 2021, and since then residents have used a temporary post office on wheels, and a row of mailboxes for customers who rent P.O. Boxes.

“What’s taking so long is my reaction,” said Shirley Medlin, a longtime resident.

Medlin said she can’t complete all of her postal business in the temporary van, so she often has to travel to another location further away.

“It’s not convenient at all, especially with all of the growth around here,” said Medlin.

The growth Medlin mentions is the new developments under construction bringing new houses and people to the Longs area.

Jerre Olson had just moved to Longs six months before the fire and is wondering why construction has not started yet.

“It doesn’t look like a post office to me, it’s just an empty lot. I would rather have a nice facility to come to,” said Olson.

Currently, the bushes which were high and thick not so long ago, have been cut down. But as far as actual construction there is none.

“The post office said because we’re getting more people, they’re not going to put a bigger one in, they are going to make it the same size. Last year they said the funding was there, they are just waiting,” said a postal service customer.

WMBF News reached out to the United States Post Office for an on-camera interview, which was declined. Instead, Debra Jean Fetterly, USPS Spokesperson, South Carolina District provided the following statement:

“The Postal Service continues to work toward a solution regarding the rebuilding of the Longs Post Office at 50 Highway 9 E in Longs, SC 29568. We regret the delay, but progress is being made to restore the facility. In the interim, customers may continue to conduct retail transactions at the mobile van parked on the Longs Post Office property. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Postal Service also has cluster box units on the property to serve Post Office Box customers. They may pick up their mail seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Mail and package delivery service has continued without interruption since the fire that damaged the Longs Post Office. The Postal Service appreciates its customers and thanks them for their patience as we work on a resolution to restore the facility to the community.”

“There is a lot of people out here and we deserve to have a post office. This is really inconvenient for us to have to take our big boxes into town,” said another postal service customer.

Another customer who did not want to be identified said she has lived in Longs her entire life and questions why it’s taken so long.

“This is crazy, I’ve been asking since last year and was told spring. Spring has sprung and we still don’t have a post office,” she said.

For now, there is no estimated time construction would start or be completed.

WMBF News has reached out to Horry County Fire Rescue to see if the cause of the fire has been determined. The department said the cause of the fire is part of a federal investigation and the results would have to come from them.

Operations are expected to be online by October 2023. Individuals interested in joining the Erchonia team should visit the company’s contact page.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project.

SC teens brazenly play pinball in spite of state's long-running ban

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — Jerry Pinkas runs the Myrtle Beach Pinball Museum.

You might also say he runs an illegal operation.

ABC15 asked if he ever had minors playing pinball in the museum, which has been illegal for decades.

"We absolutely do, yes," Pinkas said. "Kids of all ages, actually."

Sure enough, moments after opening, the bright lights, big numbers, and binging and ringing sounds had already lured at least one youth into the facility.

NEW: Residents voice concerns over ecological, cultural harm from potential new highway in Horry County

We informed 13-year-old Clark Strange of the ban, and asked if he would continue playing...it should come as no surprise, the type of kid who plays pinball, isn't concerned with playing by the rules.

"Probably," he said.

Pinkas has no shame in soliciting rogue juveniles like Clark.

"I don't have any problems sleeping honestly," Pinkas said.

He says the state's ban on adolescent pinball dates back to the 1960s, when things were, allegedly, different than now.

"It was also, back in the day, used as gambling," Pinkas said. "So people would rack up credit and that sort of thing...those days are gone."

TOP STORY: 'Time for a new generation:' Nikki Haley announces presidential run

Our team was admittedly unable to spot any unsanctioned gambling.

Pinkas says that's why he supports a bill introduced last month allowing minors to play statewide, amending the old, typically unenforced law.

"If they're not going to be used, if they're obsolete, or they're out of date, sure we ought to clean those out," Pinkas said. "Honestly people have no clue...as a matter of fact you can't park your horse on the left-hand side of the street either."

Clark's got his own vagabond reasons for wanting the law to pass.

"'Cause [pinball's] awesome and I love Star Wars, Marvel and stuff," the teen said.
